Early Foray Into Engineering

Faisal Qidwai’s academic journey began at the University of New South Wales, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree. His fascination with problem-solving and design drove him to pursue engineering, and his education equipped him with a solid understanding of project management, construction, and technical innovation. Upon graduating, he worked on significant development projects with publicly listed companies, which included residential developments, commercial fit-outs, and infrastructure upgrades. He demonstrated strong leadership abilities in these roles, overseeing teams, managing contracts, and ensuring quality control throughout various projects.

Though Faisal found success in engineering, he later acknowledged that the skills he developed in this field—particularly in problem-solving and methodical thinking—would serve him well when he transitioned into the medical field. These qualities have been integral to his approach to medicine, especially when managing complex and challenging cases.

Transition to Law and Medicine

Despite his promising future in engineering, Faisal Qidwai felt compelled to explore other career avenues. In 2004, he enrolled at the University of New South Wales to study law but ultimately left the program to follow his passion for medicine and community health. In 2006, he enrolled at Bond University, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine degree in 2010, with a focus on surgery.

Throughout his medical education, Faisal consistently excelled in his studies' practical and theoretical components, ranking at the top of his class. He also devoted time to volunteering in student-run clinics, conducting health assessments, and providing care to underserved communities on the Gold Coast. Additionally, he participated in research aimed at improving healthcare delivery for culturally diverse populations.

Faisal’s medical career includes valuable residencies at Nepean Public Hospital, where he further refined his clinical skills. He also completed a Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course, which equipped him with specialized knowledge for pediatric emergencies. His dedication to surgery and skin excision led him to develop a keen interest in skin cancer management, a specialty he would focus on in the future.

In 2014, Faisal earned a diploma in child health from Westmead Children’s Hospital, enhancing his expertise in pediatrics. The following year, he completed his fellowship at the Royal Australian College of General Practice, solidifying his standing as a well-rounded general practitioner.

Faisal continued his education by completing an advanced skills course in skin and cancer surgery in 2018. This course set the stage for his specialization in skin cancer care. Additionally, he honed his expertise in dermoscopy and excision at the Seven Hills Skin Cancer Clinic and pursued further training in sedation and vasectomy, expanding his medical skillset.
